Lixia Chu is a postdoctoral researcher in the Computer Science department at Delft University of Technology, in the Web Information Systems group. She got her PhD at the University of Salzburg with a background in big earth observation data and GIS. She also obtained another PhD in land use resources management from China University of Geoscience (Beijing). She worked on the influence of human activities on the environment and land use domain using her expertise in big earth observation data cloud-computing, long-term time series and GIS.
Currently, Lixia is working on the “TimeTravel – Automated Image Recognition to Improve Long-term Urban Planning in Response to Pandemics” project, where her focus is on the framework development on urban transformations using AI and multisource data for urban planning and public health. She is interested in the intersection of human-environment sustainable development, urban planning, public health, remote sensing, and GIS. In addition, she is actively working in the international digital earth society and committee.
